VIRGIN GORDA, BVI

On our arrival from Culebra, we spent a few very social days in Sea Cow Bay, BVI, thanks to our friends Carol and Greg! We had just dropped anchor and were invited for a long afternoon of beers on Shangri-la with a whole bunch of South Africans. We were invited for a braai the next night again, only to meet more lovely South Africans.....they seem to pop up all over the place!! Our last evening was spent on the beautiful 62ft cat, Foxy Lady.

Our livers were very happy to be out of there and heading north to Virgin Gorda.

The best cure was a visit to the Virgin Gorda Baths. They're breathtakingly beautiful caves and tunnels with the sea running in between. We got away from the maddening crowds and found some quieter pools and beaches to swim and SUP.

We spent our 26th Wedding Anniversary at the Leverick Bay Resort, taking in the Michael Beans Show. It is a "one man band pirate show" and we spent a fun evening dancing barefoot in the sand and Stephen winning a few beers and other prizes for blowing the conch the longest. He now has the new title of "Conch Blowing King" to add to his repertoire.

These are magnificent islands with beautiful beaches and upmarket resorts, amazing underwater reefs, the clearest of water and lots of activity. It's busy with lots of superyachts and sailing yachts of every kind. We spent a day snorkeling at Eustatia Sound, next to Necker Island which belongs to Richard Branson. I can see why he would buy an island just here!

There was a sailing regatta for RC44's taking place in Leverick Bay, with racing yachts from 12 countries from around the world competing. There was a SA trimmer on one of the yachts and our little SA flag appeared on the sail, so we had a boat to shout for. They raced in the bay where we are anchored so we had a good view of it all. All very exciting.

We loved the BVI's but it's time to move on.......
