WE'RE HEADING SOUTH

WE'RE HEADING SOUTH

The end of the Caribbean sailing season has sadly arrived and all the boats that aren't returning to America or Europe have started heading to a point in the Caribbean where they will spend the hurricane season.

The end of the season is glaringly obvious, the marina's are bare, shops and bars are closed and the previously full, bustling anchorages are empty.
Getting provisions at Jolly Harbour Marina

After stocking in up at our favourite grocery store, The Epicurian, and doing boat repairs for a few days in Jolly Harbour, we also started our migration South. We've hooked up with Sherman and Judy on Fairwinds and Les on Golightly is still sailing with us.

Our first stop was Deshaies in Guadeloupe, just to collect our favourite coffee, some good French wine and of course cheeses and baguettes. We then sailed to Portsmouth in Dominica in beautiful conditions and spent 2 days there. We visited Emily's our regular restaurant in he back streets and had 'heavy hors d' oeuvres' and then sailed to Roseau, further along the coast.

A beautiful trip from Portsmouth to Roseau

Roseau has a distinctive Reggae feel to it. We took a local taxi to town for supplies and music blaring through the streets and dreadlocks are the order of the day. Michaela and I took a great walk back to to the anchorage, taking beautiful photographs and visiting Desmond, a Rasta artist, at his art studio along the way.

We had an early morning departure from Dominca and had a great sail with Golightly and Fairwinds with an average of 7.5 knots to Martinique.
